The Marywood Seed Library’s (MSL) mission is to help nurture a thriving community of gardeners and seed savers. We provide access to free seeds and support gardeners and seed savers – from beginner to expert – through the process of growing, harvesting, and seed saving.
We have several goals: 1) to promote the development and preservation of seed varieties that are well adapted to the growing conditions and season of Northeast PA, and (2) to promote the development of local knowledge on how to save and pass on those seeds to future growers.
The MSL offers free seeds and a means of regional seed exchange, while teaching people how to save those seeds successfully. At the end of the season, gardeners may bring back a portion of the seed produced, to share with other gardeners; however, the saved/returned seeds are not contributed towards the library’s main seed collection. The saved/returned seeds are made available to gardeners in a separate seed exchange basket, and the cycle continues.
